Go Gold
September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month;
so let's all Go Gold and honor the courageous children and families that fight this disease.
Nine years ago, my best friend Abby passed away from a very aggressive form of brain cancer.
Cancer did not define her. She was a ballet dancer, a friend, a Disney fan and a follower of Christ, not a cancer patient.
I know that she is up in heaven dancing without pain or the fear of another scary diagnosis, but I still miss her and cannot wait to see her again someday.

Desert Gems
You might consider fall in the desert to be a bit odd. There are no trees to turn lovely colors or a sweet autumn breeze to chill your bones. But once the evenings begin to cool down, we desert dwellers adore evening walks along our oasis of a pond.

You Are Good Enough.
It is so stinking easy to slip into being overly critical of your self. Those nasty thoughts of not being good enough hurt.
I've been having a hard time with finding balance between:
"Do better! Work harder! Achieve higher!" and just letting myself chill, and continue to improve.
Because the fact of the matter is...
You! Yes you! Are fantastic already.
Yes, there is always room for improvement, but you are good enough.
Thanks guys. Sometimes you just need to write yo-self a pep talk,

These late Summer walks sure are lovely, especially considering that it is FINALLY below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Don't get us wrong, Summer weather is fantastic. Right up until you find yourself asking this question: "If I wear these flip-flops, what is the likelihood that they will melt?". True story.

The Zoo? Okay, Let's Find the Flamingos.
Hello lovelies! So sorry about falling off the face of the planet. Our nifty spaceship of a computer crash landed on the planet "not gonna work" and our satellite transmissions where not very successful.
We recently had a fantastic time at the Chicago zoo! Visiting the flamingos (a major highlight) and eating the most amazing shaved ice on the face of this earth. Naturally, we ate the summer treat with grace and poise, and took an array of photographs from all angles.
Booth statements regarding "poise" and photographs are completely false.
But trust us on this- whoever invented the strawberry and pineapple flavored shaved ice is a genius.

Dirigible Plums In Millennium Park
After frolicking about the Illinois countryside for a few days, we figured that the big city deserved a chance to shine it's shoes and give us it's best shot. We where not disappointed! Yes, we where in Chicago during Lollapalooza 2015. We didn't go, but it was super neat to hear the bass from the other side of Millennium Park.

The people we met where so kind and welcoming, we couldn't help but take a great liking to this cute marsh by the Mississippi. We rented this darling red bicycle just long enough for me to realize how much I miss evening bicycle rides. Well, guess I'll start saving up!

Doughnuts + Cat Dress
Good morning! Every now and then, it's fun to have a sweet breakfast in contrast to the usual "running out the door, don't have time for anything but this head of kale" (that isn't quite the norm, but you get the idea). So spoil yo-self! These tasty mini doughnuts take no time at all, plus you won't feel guilty! Their practically health food! Emphasis on practically.
This isn't listed as one of the ingredients, but a cat dress really adds to the breakfast experience. Something about that feline print...

I Sewed a Dress! (Now for some chocolate therapy...)
Guys, I sewed a dress. I can't believe it! I am so cured from sewing for the time being, it is rather exhausting.
A quick word from the wise(or somewhat wise):
Don't jump from sewing pillow cases and pencil skirts straight to a dress with a collar, buttons, darts and a zipper. Try building up your fab sewing skills with smaller projects- therefore, limiting the chances of loosing your mind.

Citrus is The Word
I am so in the mood for a grapefruit! At our house, we all eat our grapefruit differently, some put sugar on top, others salt, and a few adventurous souls even peel it like an orange. I prefer to my grapefruit plain shortly after is was in the fridge, so it's nice and cold.

Trench Style
It has been rather grey and cloudy lately, so a classic trench felt fitting. Which is weird because, today is the first day of June!

When was the last time you sent a letter to a friend?
Having grown up in the era of E-mail, sending a letter via snail mail is quite fun! Writing it out, choosing my favorite best stamp and then dropping it into the mail box has given me the greatest satisfaction. Then there is getting one in return, don't even get me started, I love it! There is something simple and sweet about sending/getting a letter, it just feels so sincere.

Red Rocks
Having lived in the wild west our entire lives, this has been a favorite hiking trail and picnic spot. Especially because gosh, look at these rocks! If you are ever in Sedona, be sure to bring your camera! It was rather cloudy so the sky looks white, but cloudy skies are perfect for picnics so we definitely are not complaining.

Kenna here, have you every been to a rummage or estate sale and have been aghast at how cheap precious treasures are being sold for?
I went to a garage sale and came across a worn plastic bag full of medals. The gentleman having the sale said that some were his grandfathers medals, others he found at an estate sale and a few belonged to family members, but he couldn't remember exactly who. The little sticker on the worn bag said $3.
I didn't know what to do! Only $3???
I wanted to offer him more, but another customer was trying to get his attention, so I payed him and left. After doing some research,
I found that the medals ranged from WWII to The Korean War.
(I am still researching further, so I'll keep you posted!)

The Peach Festival
Every May, a farm in our community has a peach festival, and we discovered it this year! I guess there is always something wonderful to discover in your neighborhood :)
In addition to a "You Pick" peach orchard, they had a "You Pick" garden, hay rides, kettle corn (a main food group in my book) and a loads of other exciting festival attractions.
Don't forget your sunscreen!
